About CMA Alberta
CMA Alberta is the self-governing professional body of more than 6,800 Certified Management Accountants
(CMAs), with members employed in every business sector in the province of Alberta. As a member of the CMA
Canada partnership, we have links to the more than 50,000 CMAs living and working throughout Canada and the
world.
CMA Alberta is granted the right of self-governance by provincial legislation.
CMA Alberta exists and operates under the Regulated Accounting Profession Act (RAPA).
The Certified Management Accountants Regulation is an addendum to RAPA that regulates the requirements to
become a CMA and maintain member registration.
Mandate
CMA Alberta’s mandate is twofold: to accredit CMAs and to provide strategic management professionals to the
Alberta marketplace. CMA Alberta has three hierarchical obligations:
• To protect the public interest;
• To protect the integrity of the CMA designation; and
• To protect the rights of the individual member.
Bylaws
The bylaws of a professional
organization govern how it operates. CMA Alberta's bylaws outline information on member voting procedures,
access to member records, fee schedules and levies, and penalties for non-compliance, etc.
CMA Alberta registrants, as defined by RAPA (Regulated Accounting Profession Act), are bound by
a Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics is
defined by CMA Alberta and outlines the minimum standards of behaviour for registrants in conjunction with
related Rules and Conduct.
Board of Directors
A ten-member Board of Directors governs CMA Alberta. The Board is comprised of eight CMAs elected by the
membership and two public members appointed by the government of Alberta. In addition, the immediate
Past-chair sits as an ex officio (non-voting) member. The President & CEO of CMA Alberta is a non-voting
member and the Secretary to the Board. View the current Board of Directors.
