Option 2: Obtain missing prerequisites through the CMA Accelerated
Program
If your degree does not meet the 16 prerequisite courses, you have the option of enrolling in the CMA
Accelerated Program. The CMA Accelerated Program is an intensive, 22-week program that offers a
fast-track option for degree holders missing the necessary prerequisites to write the CMA Entrance Exam.
The program has two intakes: the fall intake, leading to the June Entrance Exam, and the winter intake,
leading to the October Entrance Exam. For those who have all the prerequisites but have been out of
school for an extended period of time, the Accelerated Program offers an excellent review of the exam
concepts.
The program covers the following prerequisite topics:

The topics are covered in 22 lecture sessions and are guided by a CMA instructor. The program is
offered through full-day Saturday lectures in Calgary, Edmonton and Fort McMurray*, allowing you to continue
working full-time. The program also is offered through distance learning via online videos. The
Fort McMurray in-class session is available for the fall intake only, pending sufficient enrolment.

Prerequisites
To be eligible for the Accelerated Program, students must:
- have a recognized degree from a post-secondary institution; and
- have a grade of 60 per cent or higher in the four CMA prerequisite studies: Introductory Management
Accounting, Introductory Financial Accounting, Economics and Statistics.
Aspiring CMAs who are missing the Introductory Management Accounting and Introductory Financial
Accounting prerequisites can complete these courses online through the CMA Fundamentals Program.
Applying for the CMA Accelerated Program
To register for the fall intake of the CMA Accelerated Program, fill out the Accelerated Program application form. The deadline for
application is August 13, 2010.* The first class begins on August 28, 2010. To apply for the
CMA Accelerated Program, you must first sign up to become a CMA associate.

Course materials
Once you are registered for the CMA Accelerated Program, you will receive the following
materials:
- a financial accounting primer to review prior to the first class;
- a managerial accounting textbook;
- detailed lesson notes with reinforcement problems and solutions;
- access to online videos to either complement your in-class learning or allow you to take the program
through the distance learning option;
- access to a CMA instructor; and
- a Texas Instrument BAII Plus calculator.

Cost:
The program fee for the Accelerated Program is $2,600 plus GST. Price is subject to change.
Evaluation:
Evaluation is based on four exams, weekly online quizzes and online exams for self-study topics.
CMA Accelerated Program fall intake orientation
Orientation for the fall intake of the Accelerated Program will be occurring on August 14, 2010 in
Edmonton and on August 21 in Calgary. It is mandatory that all students enrolled in the fall intake attend
the orientation because the remaining course materials will be handed out at the orientation. In addition,
the orientation allows students to:
- get an overview of the course and expectations;
- meet the Vice-President, Accreditation; and
- meet other classmates in the program.
Students enrolled in the fall intake will receive primer materials before the first class begins. Students
are expected to review the primer prior to the first day of class.

Winter 2011 Accelerated Program intakes
Starting in winter 2011, CMA Alberta is pleased to offer the first-ever extended winter intake of
the CMA Accelerated Program as well as the regular intake of the Accelerated Program. The extended program
will occur over a one year period, as opposed to the regular 22-week Accelerated Program. The regular
CMA Accelerated Program takes 22 weeks to complete, leading up to the June 2011 Entrance
Exam, whereas the extended CMA Accelerated Program takes one year to complete, with a break in
classes between June and September, leading up to the June 2012 Entrance Exam.
