Award
Criteria
The CMA Awards of Excellence recognize CMAs who have demonstrated excellence. These members have gone the
“extra-mile” and stand out as exemplary CMAs. Nominations are open to CMAs who have made significant
achievements in business or contributions to the community. There are five categories of recognition:
Community Leadership, Contribution to Profession, Business Leadership and Strategic Achievement in
Industry, Business Leadership and Strategic Achievement in Not-for-Profit and Early
Achievement.
Award
Categories
Community Leadership
Candidates who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, creativity and/or a significant level of effort to
community and/or volunteer organizations. They have initiated positive changes in the community that improve
quality of life – social, economic and/or environmental in nature.

Contribution to Profession
Candidates have made a substantial contribution to the profession of management accounting through one or
more of the following:
- Regular and sustained service through the holding of appropriate offices and positions within the CMA
Alberta organization.
- Leadership and initiative in advancing the practice of strategic management accounting.
- Candidates who dedicated significant time to mentoring aspiring or early-career CMAs.
- Promoted the vision and bolstered the positive reputation of the CMA designation within their
workplace.

Business Leadership and Strategic Achievement - industry
Candidates demonstrated accountability to their organization by developing and championing
innovative approaches to solving business issues. Their efforts resulted in improvements that helped their
organization achieve greater success.

Business Leadership and Strategic Achievement - not-for-profit
Candidates demonstrated accountability to their not-for-profit organization by developing and
championing innovative approaches to solving business issues. Their efforts resulted in improvements that

Early Achievement
Candidates who have obtained their designation as a CMA within the last 10 years, and have
demonstrated excellence, innovation and an ongoing commitment in areas such as career, profession, community,
volunteer service, charitable involvement or other service.

Selection
An award selection committee has been established and reviews all nominations. Their
decisions are final.
